Booeegigat Program
In 2025 the Year 9 program was redeveloped and will operate from a new campus on Lonsdale St in the CBD. We are very excited to introduce a rigorous, blended pedagogical learning experience that will develop knowledge, capabilities, and character strengths.
The Booeegigat Program provides a solid foundation preparing students for senior pathways and beyond. It takes the best from our years of experience delivering a bespoke term-long program at Year 9 to support students to grow, be bold, and take risks in a high challenge and high support environment.
Students will engage in core, cross-curricular, and elective subjects taking advantage of our location in the city for some high-quality student learning experiences. Students will have the opportunity to undertake community service and go on camp to the Grampians. More information about the Booeegigat program is on page 10.
The Year 9 curriculum program is a combination of core and elective options. Our cross-curricular subjects offer students choice within the inquiry aspect of the learning and students will have the option of one elective subject per semester. The elective subjects cover a wide variety of The Arts. Students also have the opportunity to select Latin as one of their electives.
Elective subjects are semester based. Students complete a 2025 subject selection form indicating their order of preference for the elective subjects. We will work hard to provide students with an elective subject each semester that reflects their preferences. The elective options for 2025 are:
Domain | Elective Subjects |
The Arts | Drama |
Information Technology | |
Media | |
Music | |
Product Design | |
Visual Arts | |
Visual Communication | |
Languages | Latin (for AP students who started in Year 7) |
Latin (for those beginning the study in Year 9 and wanting to select as an elective in Year 10) |
The curriculum program at Year 9 is named for the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung word for curiosity and creativity. The emphasis is on learning new ideas and connecting them to existing knowledge with an open mind. We are grateful to Auntie Doreen for the cultural and linguistic consultation.

The Booeegigat Program overview
The program is a term-long course with four teachers. It is based on an inquiry and project-based learning model, with a strong focus on working collaboratively with others: students, teachers and the wider community. The program includes a mixed cohort with three homegroups each term. Students will leave mainstream classes for the term, and be enrolled in Galileo for 24 (including 2 sessions for recreation) out of 30 sessions per week.
Lonsdale St Campus
The new campus for Year 9 students will be at 399 Lonsdale Street on floors 6 and 7. The building is exclusively for educational use and access to our floors will be via swipe card. The building has classrooms and multi-purpose spaces for practical subjects as well as a student eating area and a recreation space. The building has floor to ceiling windows on three sides which offer great views of the city and plenty of natural light. Students will be at this campus for all of their lessons and will not need to travel between sites.
The campus is easily accessible by public transport being near tram routes on Elizabeth and Melbourne Central. There is also lockable bike storage in the basement of the building with exclusive UHS access.
Student experiences
Throughout the term students will engage in experiences that make the most of our central location with excursions planned to museums and galleries. Students may need their MYKI to be able to travel to some excursions or take part in community service.
Flagstaff gardens
Each lunchtime students will be able to access open space at nearby Flagstaff Gardens. There will also be PE, sport and recreation opportunities using different CBD facilities including, ice skating, basketball, orienteering, rock climbing, and more.
BarrAWARN cAMP
Students will undertake a three day camp in the Gariwerd National Park. The camp program is named with the Wurundjeri name for a magpie which is noted for its curiosity in local lore. The camp provides an opportunity to stretch and extend students through activities such as abseiling, canoeing, mountain biking, bush walking, and more. Students will prepare for camp, take charge of cooking for the team, and reflect on what they have learned about themselves and the world around them.
