Preparing for Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences

Students in Year 10 who have a passion for STEM, scientific exploration and discovery are encouraged to apply for Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences at University High School. Passionate students in Year 11 are also able to apply for Year 12 entry. Prospective students and their families considering EBS in 2026 are strongly recommended to attend a school tour and our information evening which occurs in Term 2.

Each candidate will need to complete the entrance process and will be considered based on their ability to demonstrate:

  • A genuine passion and intense interest in pursuing a career in the field of the sciences or mathematics
  • A talent and potential for high performance in the sciences, mathematics and related fields of interest.
  • The ability to thrive and engage in an innovative learning environment while preserving the values and traditions of University High School.

Students do not have to reside within the school zone and must be an Australian citizen or holder of an eligible resident’s visa at the time of application.


Entrance Process

The Entrance process to Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences involves two stages:

1. Entrance Exam:
The first stage of our entrance process is for all prospective students to register and complete a formal assessment on a specific date and time. This formal entry assessment is administered by Edutest and covers the following abilities and aptitudes:

  • Academic potential
  • Literacy
  • Scientific aptitude
  • Mathematics and numeracy

The Edutest assessment is not a test of subject specific knowledge. To ensure equity for all applicants, specific information about the entrance examination will not be provided by the school.

2025 registration and assessment dates for enrolment in 2026 are:

  • Registration closing date: To be announced
  • Entrance Examination date: To be announced

Please note that late applications will not be accepted and EBS is limited to a maximum number of students from each school.

2. Interview:
Students who proceed to stage two of their application will be requested to attend an interview day with EBS staff onsite at Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences. This day will comprise of an individual interview as well as written and group tasks. Interview information will be communicated to parents/carers via email.

Tours of Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences

EBS conducts tours for prospective students and families who are considering a 2026 entry. Several tours will be scheduled between April and June in 2025 with dates announced in Term 1, 2025.

Information Evenings

In addition to our school tours, an online information evening is held for prospective students and their families on the curriculum, facilities and the entrance process for the 2026 academic year. The evening will be hosted by Lyndsey Hubber (Assistant Principal) and Gabrielle Fejes (Elizabeth Blackburn Sciences Coordinator) via WEBEX video conferencing.
